Lawn Mower Races

You are invited to join the fun at the 2025 Lawn Mower Races.
Come cheer the drivers on or modify an old mower so you can compete!

The rules are simple and listed below. Feel free to call or stop by our Gassville location and talk to Clay or Greg about the competition. 

  • Audience admission is paid by Gregg Farm Services/GFS Outdoor Power Equipment. 
  • Entry fee for competitors is $40 per mower. ($20 to ALMR, $20 for prize pool)
  • Crew members/family in the pits will have to pay $10.

Schedule for 2025 Races

1:00-2:00 

      Racers register with ALMR.
    $20 pit fee to be paid to them - any crew member passes will be $10 ea.

2:30

    Mandatory driver's meeting for racer & zero

3:30-4:30

    Warm up laps for racers
    GFS employee will collect 20.00 entry fee and signed waivers from all competitors.

5:00

    Racing Begins - usually done by 9:00 p.m.


All participants will be required to sign a waiver accepting the potential risks of lawn mower racing. There is no insurance coverage for participant injury or equipment damage.  No alcohol is allowed at this venue, in the parking lot, pit or stands. Any signs of inebriation will disqualify a driver and his crew. Race officials are provided by ALMRA. 

Safety is a priority in this event. 

  • Mower blades must be removed from lawn tractors.
  • A tethered kill strap or working dismount switch is required.
  • All standard safety guards must be in good working order.
  • Drivers must wear a helmet. Long sleeved shirts, gloves, and closed-toed shoes are recommended.
  • A neck brace is suggested by the USLMRA.

Mower Requirements for Lap Racing

  • A standard lawn tractor with gas or electric engine are allowed. The engine does not have to be original to the mower being driven, but it does need to be a mower engine.
  • No racing fuel. Fuel must be pumped fuel bought at service stations.

To Be More Competitive

  • You may adjust gearing to allow for higher speed.
  • You may remove the mower deck when you remove the blades.
  • You may install heavy duty parts.
  • You may remove the governor.
  • You may change the tires.

There are typically two classes for lawn tractor competition: stock (mostly original mower) and modified (lots of modifications). Organizers will classify your mower at the registration meeting.

First place winner(s) of each class will receive a trophy and part of the purse.  2nd and 3rd place winners also receive part of the purse.
Purse = 100% of entry fees plus $300 for each class contributed by GFS Outdoor Power Equipment.
